Day One: Understanding and Using the ASAM Criteria to Engage Individuals into Collaborative Treatment for Substance Use Disorder

This workshop is designed to review the underlying principles and content of the ASAM Criteria and improve understanding of how to engage individuals into initial and ongoing treatment for substance use disorder. Recognizing that many individuals who need treatment for substance use disorder do not start the process of recovery immediately increases the importance of understanding Readiness to Change (ASAM Criteria Dimension 4) and Motivational Interviewing. This workshop will include motivational enhancement therapy and stages of change.

Who should attend: First responders, case managers, program coordinators, directors and all clinicians.

Day Two: Improving Skills in Assessment, Placement and Treatment Planning Using the ASAM Criteria to Deliver Person-Centered Substance Use Disorder Services

This workshop is designed to improve implementation of the ASAM Criteria to develop comprehensive assessments, individualized patient-centered treatment plans and appropriate level of care placement. Content will focus on addressing challenges associated with implementing the ASAM Criteria including providing levels of care as defined by the ASAM Criteria, utilizing imminent danger criteria, conducting comprehensive assessments, creating treatment plans that drive the length of stay, and utilizing continuing care, transfer and discharge criteria.

Who should attend day two: Clinical directors and clinicians providing direct SUD treatment and who participated in Day One.
