SUMMARY:SAMHSA Recovery Month Webinar: Criminal Justice Reform
DESCRIPTION:As part of criminal justice system reform\, many people in prison for non-violent drug offences will be released early. Although some of these individuals may have received treatment while incarcerated\, others may not have.  This show will discuss how communities are addressing prisoner re-entry\, including the efforts of states and municipalities to establish programs to assist those in need of services for mental and/or substance use disorders.  Panelists will explore how communities can engage people in treatment and recovery programs when they re-enter society.  The discussion will cover the types of services needed to address behavioral health conditions and reduce recidivism among justice-involved individuals—as well as vital recovery supports for housing\, education/training\, and health.  This show will also discuss some effective practices that are in place in various communities to address the needs of prisoners re-entering their communities.

SUMMARY:PCSS-O: Peer Assistance for the Dental Team Member with Opioid Dependency
DESCRIPTION:Substance Use Disorders (e.g. opioid and other substance disorders) are such in their presentation that the deepening shame and guilt of the dental team member who has the disorder typically leads to more and more isolating behavior as the disorder progresses. Peer assistance programs work with the person with the malady to treat the disorder thus drawing the team member back into being an active and productive member of the dental team. This presentation will follow the process of help for the one who needs the help in learning to live a different way of living with this chronic disorder. \nEducational objectives: \n\nGive examples of behaviors that can lead other dental team members to the identification of someone with a substance use disorder e.g. opioid dependency\nShow how assessment and referral to appropriate treatment can lead the team member back into an active and productive practice\nA look at various types of group meeting settings where the individual can see\, hear\, and meet others i.e. peers who have similar disorders\nShow methods of accountability for the person and for the team in allowing the individual back into practice\nDetermining factors for whether law enforcement and licensing Boards need to be involved

SUMMARY:NAADAC Webinar: Value Based Reimbursement
DESCRIPTION:Under value-based reimbursement\, general healthcare providers are challenged to improve patients’ health while decreasing costs. Administrators realize the importance of behavioral health issues\, but they’re not sure how to address them. Ample research documents that behavioral screening and intervention (BSI) – a package of alcohol and drug screening\, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT)\, smoking screening and cessation services\, and depression screening and collaborative care – would help general healthcare settings meet their new goals\, but few have implemented it. Come learn how treatment programs that offer BSI can establish valuable partnerships with general healthcare organizations\, create a new referral pipeline\, and thrive under value-based reimbursement. \nLearning Objectives\n\nExplain the incentives created by value-based reimbursement programs and how addressing behavioral risks and disorders would meet those incentives.\nDelineate the process of behavioral screening and intervention (BSI) and how it would help general healthcare providers meet their goals under value-based reimbursement.\nDescribe best practices for implementing BSI in general healthcare settings.

SUMMARY:PCSS-O Webinar: Prescribing Opioids for Pain at the Time of Changing Pain Management Guidelines
DESCRIPTION:Opioids have become an important topic in medical\, public health\, and political debate. Opioids are a very versatile class of analgesics; however\, they have many side effects\, including abuse and addiction\, and under those circumstances they lead to overdose deaths. Prescription opioids for pain relief have come under scrutiny as the identified source of abused opioids. To minimize and prevent misuse of opioids\, a number of professional societies have developed guidelines placing opioids as the second or third line of therapy\, or only after all treatments fail. For practicing neurologists\, same as for all clinicians\, most important starting point is the most specific pain diagnosis. This should lead to a number of treatment options that do not rely on opioids\, as with radicular low back pain and diabetic painful neuropathy\, where professional societies have provided recommendations. \nEducational objectives: \n\nDiscuss pharmacological properties of opioids as analgesics\nReview pain assessment of neuropathic pain disorders\, such as low back pain and diabetic painful neuropathy\nDiscuss treatment options\, minimizing reliance on opioids\, while recognizing that a few patients will require treatment with opioids

SUMMARY:NAADAC Webinar: Co-occuring Inter-relational Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Extreme correlation of these two disorders does not suggest a cause and effect relationship. Instead\, each disorder reinforces the other and leads to progression of each. Treatment must recognize how the two disorders interact in order to develop effective intervention and treatment strategies. \nLearning Objectives\n\nIdentify dynamics of the interrelationship of the two disorders and risk level.\nIdentify appropriate treatment strategies.\nDevelop effective interventions.

SUMMARY:Ireta Webinar: How to Recognize\, Respond to\, and Elicit Change
DESCRIPTION:“Change talk” is a Motivational Interviewing expression that refers to language a client or patient uses that favors change. Recognizing\, responding to\, and eliciting change talk are three crucial skills practitioners must develop and apply to support clients/patients in making change. Whether in the context of a brief intervention or in an ongoing counseling relationship\, when people use change talk to voice their intrinsic motivations\, they are more likely to make a change. This webinar will review the technical aspects of recognizing\, responding to\, and eliciting change talk. It will also offer an opportunity to practice each of the above. \nPresenter: \nAlex Waitt is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and works regionally in western Pennsylvania and nationally\, supporting organizations to integrate Motivational Interviewing into their work practices\, both clinically and administratively. For more information please reach out to Alex at alexwaitt@foxandbeellc.com
