SUMMARY:MPATTC Compassion Fatigue 4-Part Online Series
DESCRIPTION:Host: Maine Plains  ATTC \nSeries Title: Compassion Fatigue Online: The Opioid Epidemic – Increasing Knowledge and Skills for Behavioral Health Providers \nDates:\nPart I: May 1\, 2019\nPart II: May 8\, 2019\nPart III: May 15\, 2019\nPart IV: May 22\, 2019 \nTime:\n• Mountain Time Zone: 10:30 – 11:30 AM\n• Central Time Zone: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM\n• Eastern Time Zone: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM \nOverall Description: “Compassion fatigue increases stress resulting in lost productivity\, staff turnover\, and overall poor organizational health. Professionals in behavioral health or “helping profession” settings are at risk for developing secondary traumatic stress\, depression\, and/or burnout as they attend to others’ needs. Professional’s needs are often overlooked in discussions about addressing compassion fatigue in the workforce. Priorities for clinicians\, recovery support specialists\, and caregivers are to interact with their clients to promote and model healthy coping behaviors. \nThis 4-part online series will increase the capacity of behavioral health professionals to address compassion fatigue in the workforce\, especially in the wake of the opioid epidemic. Specifically\, this online series will investigate compassion fatigue\, as well as compassion satisfaction\, and provide practical tools to build awareness\, self-compassion\, and psychological flexibility as they choose a life of service to others.” \nClick here to learn more about the individual sessions and to register

SUMMARY:SCIENCE SERIES: Opioid Pharmacotherapies for Primary Care and Criminal Justice Populations
DESCRIPTION:Title: Opioid Pharmacotherapies for Primary Care and Criminal Justice Populations: Low Threshold\, Low Barrier Approaches to Naltrexone and Buprenorphine Treatments \nWhen: Thursday\, May 23\, 2019\, 12:00-1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time \nWhere: 46 Centerra Parkway\, Aquarium Conference Room\, Suite 315\, Lebanon\, NH 03766 or via WebEx  \nTopic description: Clinical trials and practice-based research indicates a relatively simple\, medical management approaches to opioid use disorder treatments are feasible\, effective\, and easily disseminated.  These ‘low threshold’ models value wide inclusion criteria\, minimal additional mandates for counseling or psychosocial supports\, immediate and sustained access to medications\, and regular but not intensive follow-up to support medication adherence and good clinical outcomes.  We have conducted multiple clinical trials using these low threshold\, low barrier packaging of buprenorphine and naltrexone therapies for opioid use disorder in primary care settings\, among detox-to-outpatient cohorts\, and in jail-to-community and parole/probation populations. \nAbout the presenter: Joshua D. Lee\, MD\, MSc\, is an Associate Professor of Population Health and Medicine/General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation at the NYU School of Medicine and Director of the NYU Fellowship in Addiction Medicine. He is a clinician researcher focused on addiction pharmacotherapies in primary care as and criminal justice populations. He has conducted multiple NIH clinical trials examining the use of naltrexone and buprenorphine opioid and alcohol treatments in community criminal justice involved adults\, at release from jail\, and within community primary care settings. \nCredit: Attendees can claim 1.0 CME/CEU for this session \nEmail Northeast.Node.CTN@dartmouth.edu for more details

SUMMARY:Psychiatric Advance Directives: A Compelling Tool to Support Crisis Care
DESCRIPTION:Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADS) are legal documents that permit persons with mental illnesses to declare their preferences\, instructions and consent for future mental health treatment\, or appoint a surrogate decision maker in advance of an incapacitating psychiatric crisis. Twenty-seven states have enacted statutes supporting these directives since the 1990’s and implementation of these laws is a federal requirement for mental health facilities and clinics receiving federal funding. Despite this\, education about PADs and resources to assist with implementation have been scarce. This webinar will introduce the concept of PADs\, present information on their potential use and resources to aid in implementation. \nThis is critical for all mental health clinicians\, as implementation of laws around PADs is a federal requirement for mental health facilities and clinics that receive federal funding. \nLearning Objectives\n\n\nList the potential benefits of Psychiatric Advance Directives.\nSummarize the origins and rationale for Psychiatric Advance Directives.\nDiscuss approaches to overcome barriers to implementation of Psychiatric Advance Directives.\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:NH Providers Association Annual Meeting and Summer Training
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 NH Providers Association Annual Meeting\nThe Annual Meeting will take place from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm (registration and breakfast begin at 9:00 am) and includes a light breakfast. \nThe afternoon training will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm (registration and lunch begin at 12:30).\nRegistration for this portion is $50 for members and $80 for not-yet-members and includes lunch. \nTraining: Understanding and Embracing the Evolving Substance Use Service System in the Granite State\nChange seems to be the only thing that is constant for the field these days. While change signals evolution and progress\, it also requires adaptability and rapid learning. New Hampshire’s substance use disorder field is undergoing rapid evolution. Medicaid Managed Care is evolving once again to accommodate a third MCO and substantial changes to current MCO contracts. Payment methods for services are increasingly being tied to performance and outcomes\, and the state is transforming its delivery of behavioral health services through Doorways\, Hubs\, and Integrated Delivery Networks. In addition to service delivery changes\, attitudes around syringe exchange programs and marijuana use and access are evolving as well. Providers across the continuum need to remain informed and ready to respond to these changes and fully understand the impacts they have on the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder. This mixed model training\, facilitated by Abby Shockley\, will provide participants with a lay of the land for prevention\, treatment and recovery services in New Hampshire followed by an interactive discussion with key stakeholders around managed care and payment transformation\, emerging trends in the continuum of care\, and opportunities to leverage ever-increasing resources to address substance use. \nCost: $50 for members\, $80 for not-yet-members \nLunch is included\nLunch and registration begin at 12:30pm\nContinuing Education credit hours will be applied for MLADC/LADC/CRSW\, & LICSW/LCMHC. \nWhere?\nMill Falls by the Lake\nChurch Landing\, Winnipesaukee Ballroom\n281 Daniel Webster Hwy\nMeredith\, NH 03253\nWhen?\nThursday\, July 18th\, 2019\n9:00am to 12:30pm -Annual Meeting\n12:30 to 3pm – Afternoon Training\nREGISTER HERE\n The system will request you to log in to register. SUMMARY:10\,000 Candles for New Hampshire
DESCRIPTION:GOALS  \nOur goal is to raise awareness that anxiety\, depression\, substance misuse and suicide can form as a cluster\, and the opposite of this societal condition is connection. SUMMARY:Brain Injury Due to Overdose: Training
DESCRIPTION:Survivors of overdose are often considered complex clients because they present with multiple\, interacting problems and seem to be the most difficult to engage in treatment. Despite using more health care resources\, they often have the poorest outcomes. This 4-hour workshop will examine how neurocognitive impairment (difficulties in thinking learning and memory)\, as well as neurobehavioral impairment (difficulties in impulse control\, judgment and social behavior)\, may impede the process of assessment and intervention. In this presentation\, we will explore sources of neurocognitive and neurobehavioral impairment and practical strategies clinicians can use to recognize this impairment and adapt their current practices. Topics covered will include screening for brain injury\, cognitive compensation strategies and models of care. \nAs a result of attending\, participants will be able to: \n\ndescribe how history of traumatic brain injury\, chronic use of opioids and overdose may contribute to neurocognitive impairment\ndescribe the process of screening for acquired brain injury generally\, and neurocognitive impairment after overdose specifically\nidentify basic cognitive compensation strategies useful in assessment and counseling settings; and\nidentify program modifications that may be particularly helpful to individuals living with neurocognitive impairment.\n\nRegister Here
