DESCRIPTION:What: The New Hampshire Medical Society\, NH Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services\, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network are pleased to offer this FREE buprenorphine waiver training. \nWhen: Monday June\, 17th from 8:30AM-5:00PM EST \nWhere: Wentworth-Douglass Hospital\, Auditoriums A and B\, 789 Central Avenue\, Dover\, NH 03820 \n\nTraining is available for physicians interested in seeking their waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in the treatment of opioid use disorders. To obtain the waiver to prescribe\, providers are required to take eight hours of training.\nFollowing trainings\, physicians who have successfully completed the course\, may apply to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to obtain the waiver.\n8 AMA PRA Category 1 credits and a Buprenorphine Training Completion Certificate will be awarded to those who complete all 8 hours of the course and receive a minimum cumulative score of 75% on the examination.\nResidents may take the course and apply for their waiver when they receive their DEA license. They will need to maintain their certificate of completion following the training.\nNurse practitioners and physician assistants who take this 8-Hour MAT waiver course will receive a certificate of completion and can apply it toward the 24-hour training requirement established by the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA). SUMMARY:Psychiatric Advance Directives: A Compelling Tool to Support Crisis Care
DESCRIPTION:Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADS) are legal documents that permit persons with mental illnesses to declare their preferences\, instructions and consent for future mental health treatment\, or appoint a surrogate decision maker in advance of an incapacitating psychiatric crisis. Twenty-seven states have enacted statutes supporting these directives since the 1990’s and implementation of these laws is a federal requirement for mental health facilities and clinics receiving federal funding. Despite this\, education about PADs and resources to assist with implementation have been scarce. While change signals evolution and progress\, it also requires adaptability and rapid learning. New Hampshire’s substance use disorder field is undergoing rapid evolution. Medicaid Managed Care is evolving once again to accommodate a third MCO and substantial changes to current MCO contracts. Payment methods for services are increasingly being tied to performance and outcomes\, and the state is transforming its delivery of behavioral health services through Doorways\, Hubs\, and Integrated Delivery Networks. In addition to service delivery changes\, attitudes around syringe exchange programs and marijuana use and access are evolving as well. Providers across the continuum need to remain informed and ready to respond to these changes and fully understand the impacts they have on the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder. SUMMARY:Brain Injury Due to Overdose: Training
DESCRIPTION:Survivors of overdose are often considered complex clients because they present with multiple\, interacting problems and seem to be the most difficult to engage in treatment. Despite using more health care resources\, they often have the poorest outcomes. This 4-hour workshop will examine how neurocognitive impairment (difficulties in thinking learning and memory)\, as well as neurobehavioral impairment (difficulties in impulse control\, judgment and social behavior)\, may impede the process of assessment and intervention. In this presentation\, we will explore sources of neurocognitive and neurobehavioral impairment and practical strategies clinicians can use to recognize this impairment and adapt their current practices. Topics covered will include screening for brain injury\, cognitive compensation strategies and models of care. \nAs a result of attending\, participants will be able to: \n\ndescribe how history of traumatic brain injury\, chronic use of opioids and overdose may contribute to neurocognitive impairment\ndescribe the process of screening for acquired brain injury generally\, and neurocognitive impairment after overdose specifically\nidentify basic cognitive compensation strategies useful in assessment and counseling settings; and\nidentify program modifications that may be particularly helpful to individuals living with neurocognitive impairment.\n\nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Keynote Speaker \nMichael Gass\, PhD\, LMFT\, is a Professor and the Director of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Research Center (obhcenter.org) at the University of New Hampshire. \nDr. Gass received his PhD in educational research from the University of Colorado/Boulder and his postdoctoral work in clinical marriage and family therapy. With Drs. Gillis and Russell\, he has published the leading textbook in the field (Adventure Therapy published by Routledge Press). Dr. Gass was the inaugural Chair of the AEE Accreditation Council for its first 10 years of existence as well as President of the Board of Directors of AEE in 1990. Some of his current research projects include: Risk management statistics of adventure therapy programs\, adventure competencies for therapists\, enhancement of NATSAP Practice Research Network database\, researching adventure therapy programs with vulnerable populations\, cost benefit analyses of outdoor behavioral healthcare programs\, supporting emerging scholars/researchers in adventure therapy\, and publishing and presenting in traditional mental health/psychology venues (e.g.\, APA).
