Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Karen L. Cropsey, Psy.D., is Professor and Vice Chair for Clinical Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also holds the Kathy Ireland Endowed Chair for Psychiatric Research and directs the Center for Addiction and Pain Prevention and Intervention (CAPPI). Dr. Cropsey’s research focuses on substance use disorders, smoking cessation, opioid use, and behavioral health interventions, with a particular emphasis on high-risk and underserved populations. Her work has contributed substantially to the development of evidence-based approaches to addiction treatment and prevention, especially in justice involved and other vulnerable groups. She is widely recognized for advancing translational research that addresses pressing public health challenges related to addiction, pain, and health disparities.
