Neurobiological Intersection of Pain and Addiction: Clinical Implications

Nora Volkow, M.D.

Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Nora D. Volkow, M.D. revealed addiction as a brain disorder, showing how dopamine system changes impair reward and self-control. A pioneer in brain imaging, she also advanced understanding of obesity, ADHD, and aging through her research. She is author of nearly 1,000 publications, member of the National Academy of Medicine, and recipient of numerous international awards.

Presented by the Osher Center for Integrative Health at UVM as part of the Laura Mann Integrative Healthcare Lecture Series, this special event is hosted during Psychiatry Grand Grounds at UVM Medical Center, in conjunction with The Robert D. Larner, M.D., College of Medicine.
